Nine Palestinians killed in Israeli strikes across Gaza Strip despite ceasefire

Israeli forces have killed at least nine Palestinians in new attacks across the Gaza Strip, in yet another daily violation of the United States-brokered ceasefire agreement in effect since October 10 last year.

A medical source at the Nasser Hospital said four of the victims were killed in an Israeli attack on Sunday in the southern city of Khan Younis.

The attack took place beyond the so-called “Yellow Line” where Israeli troops are stationed in Gaza, the source added.

The so-called “Yellow Line” separates areas of Israeli military deployment, which account for about 53% of the Gaza Strip’s eastern territory, from western areas where Palestinians are permitted to move.

Local Palestinian media outlets reported that the Israeli airstrike hit an area near the Turkish slaughterhouse west of Khan Younis.

They added that ambulances were unable to reach the site as Israeli drones were hovering overhead.

The other four Palestinians were killed when Israeli forces attacked a tent for displaced people in the al-Faluja area of northern Gaza, a source at al-Shifa Hospital said.

Reports also indicate that another Palestinian was killed in the Israeli strikes, but the affected area and the identity of the victim were not immediately disclosed.

The strikes coincided with heavy gunfire by Israeli forces east of the Zeitoun neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City, as attacks on residential areas and the surroundings of displacement shelters continue unabated.

Israeli forces also detonated an explosive robot device in the Sheikh Zayed area in northern Gaza. No damage or injuries were immediately reported.

According to authorities in Gaza, Israel has violated the Gaza ceasefire more than 1,500 times since it came into effect. At least 591 people have been killed and 1,590 wounded since then.

The ceasefire agreement has brought to a close a bloody Israeli military onslaught that started on October 8, 2023, lasting for two years.

According to Palestinian officials, the genocidal war resulted in the deaths of over 72,000 Palestinians and left more than 171,000 injured, inflicting extensive damage that impacted 90% of civilian infrastructure.

The United Nations has projected that the expenses for rebuilding will be around $70 billion.
