Iran-US indirect talks

Iran and the United States have concluded a new round of Oman-mediated nuclear talks in Muscat, following a series of indirect negotiations that ended in June last year. The Iranian delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, with the American side consisting of Trump’s special envoy to West Asia, Steve Witkoff, and his senior advisor, Jared Kushner. Following the talks, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said in a post on social media that the talks concluded with a mutual understanding between both parties to continue negotiations. Araghchi also spoke to reporters after the negotiations, saying that overall, the talks were a good start, but the continuation of the negotiations depends on conducting further consultations in the capitals. 

Gaza ceasefire violations

The Israeli military has carried out fresh strikes in Gaza in another violation of the ceasefire in the war-torn territory. One of the attacks completely destroyed a residential building in Khan Yunis, and left Multiple people injured. The attack in Khan Yunis is part of the Israeli regime’s campaign of demolishing Palestinians’ homes. In a separate incident, Israeli tanks carried out heavy assaults in central areas of the southern city. In northern Gaza, two Palestinians were killed by Israeli occupation forces in Beit Lahia and Jabalia. Meanwhile, a Palestinian woman was wounded by gunfire in central Gaza. With these latest casualties, the Palestinian death toll since the start of the ceasefire has risen to more than 570. The overall death toll from the genocidal war since October 2023 now exceeds 71,850.

Islamabad mosque explosion

A massive explosion has ripped through a Shia Mosque in Pakistan’s capital city, killing dozens of worshippers. Around 170 others have also been injured, with some of them in critical condition. The explosion occurred at Khadija Tul Kubra Mosque in southeastern Islamabad during Friday prayers. Islamabad police spokesperson said the cause of the blast has yet to be determined. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack and affirmed that elements involved in such heinous acts will be dealt with firmly. Iran’s Foreign Ministry has also denounced the bombing. Spokesman Esmail Baghaei reiterated Iran’s principled stance of rejecting all forms of terrorism and violent extremism. He stressed that confronting terrorism requires coordinated regional cooperation and sustained action against perpetrators and financiers.
