A group of scholars at Sharif University of Technology (SUT) has condemned US foreign policy as a violation of international law, warning that it threatens Iran’s security and undermines global stability.

In a joint statement signed by 116 faculty members, the scholars criticized US foreign policies as a violation of international law. They expressed concerns that these policies pose a significant threat to the security of Iran as well as to global stability.

“We, faculty members of Sharif University of Technology, believe the current trajectory of the United States’ foreign policy has crossed beyond the bounds of international law. These policies are not merely a challenge to the security of Iran as an independent state; they represent a profound threat to international peace and the global order,” the statement read.

The statement was issued on January 27, 2026, amid widespread condemnation of US and Israeli warmongering rhetoric, warning that such provocative statements heighten regional tensions and jeopardize international peace.

The statement called on the international community to halt “US imperial aggression” against Iran, characterized by “overt military intimidation, covert operations, and economic strangulation,” aimed at inciting internal discord within the nation.

They warned, “These policies demand immediate global attention before further regions suffer the consequences of US aggression.”

The scholars pointed out that US actions, such as the assassination of scientists and the legitimization of violence against civilians, have led to widespread destruction, from Gaza to Yemen, Venezuela, and Libya.

It added, “This school of thought, in its own omnipotence, has led the American leadership to dismantle international institutions and norms, resulting in the death of countless innocent people worldwide. From the ruins of Gaza and Yemen to the besieged sovereignty of Venezuela and Libya, the imprint of this destructive doctrine is undeniable.”

The professors described Trump’s foreign policy as a deviation from international norms and human values, warning that it risks transforming the international system into a Hobbesian state where power supersedes law.

The group of scholars emphasized that it is a “universal human responsibility” to inform the public about the consequences of the global threats posed by Trump’s policies.

The scholars urged all parties, regardless of political beliefs, to oppose US intervention and violence, advocating for a united front to protect human dignity and promote a just world order.

“We must unequivocally condemn this pattern of intervention and violence,” the statement added.

The statement called on all involved local and international players to avoid complicity with the Trump administration in the pursuance of “inhumane policies.”

“As scholars and citizens of one of the world’s oldest civilizations, we call for the mobilization of all national, regional, and international capacities to resist complicity with these inhumane policies. We must unite to prevent the world from descending further into a state where might makes right and where powerful actors are free to act without law or limits," it said.

“Our stance is one of the principles in defense of human dignity and a just world order. We stand in solidarity with all peoples who are threatened by the lashes of unrestrained power and violence, conscious that in our own homeland, Iran, the time for vigilance and collective action is now.”
