Iran funerals for martyrs
More funeral processions have been held in Iran for those who were martyred in the recent foreign-backed riots in the country. Thousands of people gathered in the central province of Isfahan for the funeral prayer of a martyr who lost their life in the recent foreign-backed unrest. Another martyr was also laid to rest in the north-central province of Semnan, with thousands of people attending the funeral procession there. Over the past days, multiple Iranian cities have been witnessing funeral and burial ceremonies for security personnel and civilians martyred in the riots. Massive rallies have also been held in a number of cities, including the capital Tehran, in condemnation of the acts of vandalism and destabilization of the nation’s security. During those rallies, Iranians reaffirmed allegiance to the ideals of the Islamic Revolution.
Iran foreign-backed riots
Iran's foreign minister has slammed the United States and the Israeli regime for playing a direct role in inciting the recent deadly riots in the country, which culminated in armed terrorist attacks. Abbas Araghchi made the comment in a phone call with the UN chief, Antonio Guterres. Araghchi said there is no doubt about the direct role that the US and Israel played in arming and organizing terrorists in Iran. He added that armed terrorists committed heinous crimes in Iran such as killing police officers and ordinary people, murdering women and children, attacking hospitals and other healthcare facilities, and destroying mosques and cultural centers. Araghchi said armed terrorists used the same methods that were already employed by Daesh terrorists, calling on the UN to unequivocally condemn their crimes. He also condemned Washington’s move to call for a Security Council meeting on the latest developments in Iran as an attempt to dodge responsibility. Araghchi emphasized that the United States, along with Israel, is responsible for imposing unjust sanctions on Iranians, launching military aggression against the country, and killing hundreds of Iranians during recent riots. He stressed that Washington cannot cover up its crimes against Iranians through the Security Council meeting.
US anti-ICE protests
The US city of Minneapolis continues to witness protests against the deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The protest was held after the US President threatened to use the Insurrection Act to end the protests. Donald Trump said in a social media post that he will invoke the law to stop "professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking ICE agents". In response, the governor of Minnesota urged the administration to ease its rhetoric and allow for calm. Both Minnesota and Oregon have filed lawsuits against the Trump administration, challenging the unconstitutional and unlawful deployment of ICE agents in the two US states. The protests erupted after the fatal shooting of a woman by an ICE officer in Minneapolis last week. They soon spread to other US cities, with protesters slamming Trump for immigration crackdown.
