Slamming US interventionism

Iran has strongly condemned the ‘interventionist’ and ‘hypocritical’ remarks made by US officials on the country’s internal affairs, saying their comments reflect Washington’s continued hostility and grudge toward the Iranian nation. The Iranian Foreign Ministry said Washington’s stance on recent protests in Iran are an extension of US’ maximum pressure policy, and seek to incite violence, terrorism, and riots in the country. The ministry said US hostility against Iranians is not limited to an economic war. It stressed that Washington is waging a psychological warfare against Iran and spreads false news, along with threats of military intervention, to incite violence and terrorism in clear violation of the UN Charter and principles of international law. It noted that the Islamic Republic recognizes peaceful protests and spares no effort to allay people’s economic problems, a large part of which is the result of Washington’s economic war and illegal sanctions on the Iranian nation. It stressed that US sanctions directly target all human rights of Iranians, including their livelihood, and are a clear example of crimes against humanity.

Israel West Bank crimes

The United Nations has accused the Israeli regime of decades of discrimination and segregation against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The world body’s rights office stressed that the regime’s “systematic discrimination” against Palestinians in the West Bank has “drastically deteriorated.” UN Human Rights Chief Volker Turk made the comment in an official report, saying that there is a systematic asphyxiation of the rights of Palestinians in the West Bank. Turk added that every aspect of life for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank is controlled and curtailed by Israel’s discriminatory laws, policies and practices. He emphasized that what Israel is doing to Palestinians in the occupied territory is a particularly severe form of racial discrimination and segregation that resembles the kind of apartheid system that the world has seen before. The UN official noted that the regime treats Israeli settlers and Palestinians residing in the West Bank under two distinct bodies of law and policies, resulting in unequal treatment on a range of critical issues. Turk said Palestinians continue to be subjected to large-scale confiscation of land and deprivation of access to resources. He demanded Israel “repeal all laws, policies and practices that perpetuate systemic discrimination against Palestinians based on race, religion or ethnic origin.”

US fatal ICE shooting

The killing of a woman by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis has sparked strong anger over President Donald Trump’s nationwide crackdown on migrants. While government officials have defended the agent on grounds of self-defense, the city’s mayor rejected the government's allegations as garbage. The ICE agent fatally shot the 37-year-old woman in her car on Wednesday. The shooting sparked protests near the scene, where some demonstrators were confronted by heavily armed federal agents wearing gas masks and firing chemical irritants. Trump and US homeland security secretary claimed the woman was shot after she tried to run over ICE officers. The Minneapolis mayor, however, said video of the incident directly contradicts the government’s "garbage narrative". In a fiery backlash, he demanded immigration agents leave the city. Police said the woman, who was married, was not a target of immigration operations. Her death was at least the fifth fatality linked to the Trump Administration’s immigration crackdown.
