Israel Gaza truce violations

Israeli violations of the Gaza ceasefire agreement continue unabated, as the regime’s military launches new attacks in the war-torn territory. Israeli military repeatedly shelled Gaza City’s Al-Tuffah neighborhood while low-flying drones fired directly on Palestinians. In the south, Israeli boats and warplanes struck several areas in eastern Khan Yunis. According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, Israeli forces have carried out more than 280 ceasefire violations, killing over 240 people since the truce took effect. The death toll from the genocidal war on Gaza since October 2023 has reached nearly 69,200, with about 170,700 others wounded.

Iraq election

In Iraq, voters are heading to the polls across the country to elect a new parliament. Polling stations opened early in the morning, with more than 20 million registered citizens eligible to cast their ballots. Iraqis will elect 329 members of parliament from around 8,000 candidates. Today’s voting is the second phase of the parliamentary election. The first phase was held on Sunday, when Iraq’s security forces and internally displaced people cast their votes. Earlier today, the Iraqi Prime Minister addressed the media, hailing the election that will allow Iraqis to determine their own destiny.

Slamming US nuke tests resumption

Iran has expressed deep concern over recent statements by US officials suggesting the possible resumption of nuclear weapons tests. Tehran conveyed its protest in a letter to the President and Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament. In the letter, Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations Office in Geneva stressed that such statements violate the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties and customary international law. Ali Bahreini noted that the remarks undermine both the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, heighten the arms race, and threaten international peace and security. The Iranian ambassador also reiterated Tehran’s call for all countries to uphold their disarmament and non-proliferation commitments.
