E3 move serves US interests
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman says the three European countries’ decision to activate the snapback mechanism shows they've failed to act as mature and independent negotiators. Baghaei stated that the E3’s move was driven more by stubbornness and a desire to meet US demands than by rational judgment or legal analysis. He added that the move ignored their own interests, considerations, and credibility as parties to the 2015 nuclear deal. The spokesman said re-imposing UN sanctions on Iran lack legals validity and sound reasoning. He noted that Iran’s position is supported by China and Russia as permanent Security Council members. Baghaei emphasized that Tehran favors diplomacy provided it would help cater for its interests. Meanwhile, the EU’s top diplomat says the re-imposition of sanctions on Tehran must not mark the end of diplomacy. Kaja Kallas said efforts to engage with all parties will continue because a lasting solution to the Iranian nuclear issue can only be achieved through negotiation and diplomacy.
