Global Sumud Flotilla
Activists on board the Global Sumud Flotilla, who have been abducted by Israeli forces, say they have been denied their fundamental legal rights by the regime. The activists said Israeli officials have already begun conducting hearings on their deportation and detention in the Ashdod port. The proceedings were initiated without prior notice to the activists’ lawyers, and the abductees were denied access to legal counsel. Israeli authorities earlier announced that the entire fleet of the Sumud flotilla has been seized, preventing them from breaking the naval blockade of Gaza. Tel Aviv, however, said one vessel still remains at sea, which will be intercepted once it nears Gaza’s shores. Israeli forces violently raided the flotilla in international waters, detaining all activists on board, including Greta Thunberg and European Parliament member, Rima Hassan. The Sumud flotilla represented the largest attempt yet to challenge the Gaza blockade. The mission began nearly a month ago with more than 40 boats and 500 activists.
US-Israeli Gaza genocide
Israeli forces intensify their atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza, killing and injuring more civilians, especially in the central and southern parts of the territory. Nearly 80 civilians were killed in a single day by Israeli forces. One of the regime’s strikes killed FOUR Palestinians after a tent sheltering displaced people was hit south of Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza. Separate airstrikes in central and southern Gaza left several civilians, including a child, injured, one of them in critical condition. Casualties were also reported following Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City’s Al-Shati refugee camp. Many civilians, including women and children, suffered suffocation after an Israeli drone dropped tear gas and smoke bombs on a school housing displaced persons west of Gaza City. Earlier, nine Palestinians, including a father, his four sons, and his grandson, were killed in an airstrike in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Yunis, in southern Gaza. The death toll from the Israeli genocide now exceeds 66,220, with nearly 168,940 others injured.
Iran-Russia partnership treaty
Iran's Foreign Ministry has hailed entering into force of the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between Moscow and Tehran. The ministry said the treaty reflects the will of the two countries to strengthen relations in all areas of interest, based on mutual respect, good neighborliness, and the two nations’ common interests. It called the treaty a turning point in the history of Iran-Russia relations, which can help expand bilateral ties in various areas ranging from defense, energy and finance, to agriculture, science, and technology. The ministry said the treaty also provides the necessary ground for bolstering joint efforts to preserve international peace and security, and confront the growing threats on a global level. It added that Iran and Russia will spare no effort to safeguard multilateralism and respect for international law, including by strengthening cooperation within such multilateral organizations as the BRICS group and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
