US-Israeli genocide in Gaza
Israeli forces have intensified their ground and aerial attacks in the besieged Gaza Strip, killing over two dozen Palestinians since dawn. In northwestern Gaza City, regime forces detonated several armored vehicles laden with explosives near the al-Mukhabarat Towers. Heavy gun fire also targeted nearby residential areas. In central Gaza, Israeli warplanes bombed the al-Bureij refugee camp, killing four Palestinians and injuring 10 others. Israeli airstrikes also targeted southern city of Khan Yunis. Eyewitnesses described the intensity of the explosions and firepower as unprecedented. The death toll from the Israeli genocide has surpassed 65,100, with over 165,900 others injured.
Silencing pro-Palestine voices
Another prominent pro-Palestinian student activist in the United States is facing deportation as the Trump administration intensifies its efforts to target individuals involved in pro-Palestinian campus demonstrations. Mahmoud Khalil, a former student at Columbia University and a legal permanent resident, has been ordered by a Louisiana immigration judge to be deported to either Algeria or Syria. It is alleged that the prominent pro-Palestinian protest leader failed to fully disclose information on his green card application. Khalil, a legal permanent resident married to a US citizen with a US-born son, slammed the ruling as politically motivated. He referred to the proceedings as a kangaroo court aimed at suppressing political dissent. Khalil’s legal counsel has indicated their intention to appeal the decision. Earlier this year, Khalil was detained for three months before a federal judge ordered his release in June, finding that he posed no threat to public safety.
France nation-wide strikes
In France, people and Labor Unions are holding demonstrations and nationwide strikes in protest against the government’s proposed austerity measures in the next year’s budget plan. Over 250 demonstrations take place across the country, with widespread closures of schools and disruptions to public transportation. Some 800, individuals take to the streets in protest of impending cuts to public services. Labor unions are also calling for increased investment in education, healthcare, and transportation, as well as the implementation of higher taxes on the wealthy. Former Prime Minister François Bayrou had proposed cuts totaling 44 billion euros, a plan which contributed to his ouster following a no-confidence vote on September 8. Critics say budget proposals by his successor; Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu continues to follow the same austerity measures.
