Elon Musk, the entrepreneur turned politician, says the focus of his newly established “America Party” is the next round of congressional elections, but he may support a presidential candidate as well.
Musk said on Sunday that his new political initiative will focus on challenging the dominance of both Democrats and Republicans ahead of the 2026 midterm elections when 33 of the 100 Senate seats and all 435 House seats will be put to vote.
Musk described his America Party as an alternative to what he called the ”Republican/Democrat Uniparty,” and accused both major factions of mismanaging the country’s finances and stifling voter choice.
“Backing a candidate for president is not out of the question, but the focus for the next 12 months is on the House and the Senate,” Mr. Musk wrote on X on Sunday.
In another post, he said the new party will apply "extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield" to shatter the current political status.
“The way we’re going to crack the uniparty system is by using a variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Spartan invincibility at Leuctra: extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield,” Musk stated in his post.
Musk further criticized President Donald Trump’s fiscal policy and questioned the value of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a temporary agency Trump appointed him to lead before they parted ways over the administration’s fiscal and political policies.
“What the heck was the point of DOGE if he’s just going to increase the debt by $5 trillion??” Musk wrote.
US President Donald Trump hit out at Musk over the multi-billionaire's plan to launch a new political party, describing it as ridiculous.
"I think it's ridiculous to start a third party," said Trump, speaking to reporters on Sunday before boarding Air Force One. "It's always been a two-party system and I think starting a third party just adds to the confusion."
Also in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump condemned Musk’s “erratic behavior” in recent weeks, and accused him of promoting “disruption and chaos” that undermines the stability of the American political system.
“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks … He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States – the system seems not designed for them,” Trump wrote.
Musk, who supported Trump during his campaign ti return to the White House, stepped down from his role in DOGE last month after clashing with the administration over a sweeping tax and spending package known as the ”Big Beautiful Bill” which Trump signed into law on July 4.
The legislation includes trillions of dollars in new expenditures, cuts to social programs, and a sharp increase to the federal debt ceiling.
