Pakistan-India tensions
India and Pakistan have exchanged heavy artillery and missile attacks along their contested border, as fears of war between the two nuclear-armed neighbors surge. The heightened tensions come just days after New Delhi blamed Islamabad for a deadly attack on the Indian side of the disputed Kashmir region. India initiated the strikes, saying they targeted "terrorist infrastructure" in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, where it claims attacks against India were planned and directed from. Pakistan’s Armed Forces said several locations were hit, including a mosque in the Muzaffarabad region, killing dozens of civilians as a result. Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Indian charge d'affaires was summoned to receive the country's strong protest over the unprovoked indian attacks. Earlier on Wednesday, Islamabad struck back with artillery shelling, stressing that it conducted an act of self-defense in response to what it called New Delhi’s killing of innocent citizens.
US-Israeli genocide in Gaza
Israeli attacks on Gaza continue indiscriminately, leaving a trail of death and destruction across the coastal sliver. In one of the recent strikes, 8 members of the same family were killed after Israeli warplanes bombed a Palestinian home in Khan Yunis. A separate strike targeted a school in al-Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza City, killing at least 16 and injuring several others. Late on Tuesday, Israeli fighter jets had struck two other schools in the al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, where over 30 Palestinians lost their lives. Other parts of Gaza have also been the scene of deadly air and artillery strikes, with an unknown number of Palestinians being killed or injured. According to the Gaza health ministry, more than 52,650 Palestinians have been killed since the regime began its genocidal campaign in October 2023. Nearly 118,900 others have been injured.
US loses another F-18
Another US Navy warplane has been lost in the Red Sea, making it the second multi-million dollar fighter jet lost in just over a week, with both pilots escaping with minor injuries. An F/A-18E Super Hornet from the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman went overboard during a landing attempt Tuesday when its arrestment system failed. The $60 million jet and a tow tractor later sank as a result. One sailor also suffered minor injuries in the incident. This comes just over a week after a similar incident, in which another Super Hornet was lost from the same carrier. In that case, the aircraft carrier made an evasive turn to avoid Yemeni fire, contributing to the jet's loss.
