Iran pres. candidates present plans as televised campaigns begin

Iran's presidential candidates

Iran's presidential candidates have outlined their programs as election campaigns have begun.

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf underlined the need for “transformation” in all sectors of the country by means of “cybernetic management.”

“Today, a cybernetic management can cause transformation in different areas,” he said in a TV program on Monday.

Regarding economic issues, he called for a detailed and in-depth management that is consistent with the policies of popularization, automation and transparency.

Also in his remarks, Qalibaf, who is currently the parliament speaker, said that he had chosen the slogan “service and progress" for his election campaign.

He further emphasized that investment and wealth production happen in the light of progress in the country.

Meanwhile, the presidential hopeful pointed to the problems that people are facing in their livelihood, vowing to increase their purchasing power.

He also pledged to focus on implementing Iran's seventh National Development Plan (2023-2027).

Pezeshkian says pursues‘stability’ as general policy

Also on Monday, another candidate Masoud Pezeshkian said he pursues the policy of “stability,” noting that a change of direction would prevent the country from achieving the growth desired by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

“We are not going to change the direction and the general policy is stability,” the reformist lawmaker asserted.

Asked about the seventh National Development Plan, he replied, “We are not going to write a new plan and we are not going to announce a new policy in the country.”

He further warned that instability would make domestic investors doubt whether to invest in the country and will push them to leave Iran.

“The first step is … bringing all the people to the stage in the economic field and breaking the ice between the government and the people,” he added.

Qazizadeh Hashemi vows to nationalize economy

Another presidential hopeful Amir Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi said on Monday that the state economy should be gradually nationalized through a real privatization process.

He noted that his campaign’s slogan is “the government of people and the government of families.”

Qazizadeh Hashemi, who is the head of the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, said that he is committed to the ideals of the late President Ebrahim Raeisi, including justice, equal opportunities, and the fight against corruption.

Six candidates have been approved to run for president in the June 28 election.

The vote was called after President Raeisi lost his life along with seven others on May 19, when a helicopter carrying them crashed into a mountainous area in northwest Iran amid foggy conditions.
