Slamming US threat

Iran says it won’t hesitate to enhance deterrence and protect its interests after Washington rehashed its all-options-on-the-table threat against Tehran. The foreign ministry spokesman said threats of using force against other countries run counter to international laws and the UN charter. Nasser Kanani made the remarks in response to anti-Iran comments made by the US Secretary of State during the pro-Israel AIPAC meeting. There, Anthony Blinken accused Tehran of "exporting aggression" and said the United States would address what he called Iran’s nuclear threat. Kanani called on the US to change its failed and unlawful policies against Iran. He also dismissed Blinken’s remarks as baseless.

Russia-Ukraine war

Russia’s Foreign Minister has warned that supplying Kiev with American F-16 warplanes will escalate the conflict in Ukraine. Sergei Lavrov said F-16 fighter jets can quote-accommodate nuclear weapons with some modifications. The minister blamed US military strategists and planners for such a decision. Lavrov was making a speech at a military base in Dushanbe in Tajikistan. Russia has repeatedly warned the West against providing Kiev with more advanced weapons.

Nord Stream pipelines attack

A report by American media says the United States received intelligence from an ally that Ukraine planned to blow up the Nord Stream pipeline. Citing leaked intelligence files, the Washington Post reported the CIA knew about the sabotage three months before it happened. The US spy agency also shared the information with other European allies. The Post says the leaked files made it clear the plot was not a "rogue operation", and that it was overseen by Ukraine’s military chief. But the paper claims President Zelensky of Ukraine didn’t know about the plan. The report is also supported by a separate investigation by German media published last week. The Russia-to-Germany gas pipeline was damaged in September 2022 by underwater explosions. Kiev denies any responsibility. Moscow says the West is to blame for the act of sabotage.
