Israeli crimes in Gaza
Heath officials in Gaza have issued a stark warning about a significant rise in miscarriage cases alongside a sharp decrease in new births compared to last year. According to Gaza’s health ministry, the number of monthly births has declined by 40 percent, mainly due to harsh living conditions faced by pregnant women. The ministry also reported a significant rise in miscarriage cases among Palestinian women. It noted that low-birth-weight newborns have become widespread in Gaza, due to maternal malnutrition and the Israeli blockade on vital nutritional supplements. The ministry said Israeli forces have deliberately targeted fertility centers, destroying nitrogen storage and nearly 4,000 fertilized embryos. It added that targeting reproductive health of Gazans is part of the regime's genocidal war against the territory, which has been raging on since October 20-23, with full support of the US and some European countries.
Syria deadly crackdown
In Syria, security forces have killed at least three people and wounded more than 60 others during Sunday protests against violence on Alawite minority. The fatalities occurred in the Alawite heartland of Latakia, where thousands of protesters gathered to demand a decentralized political system in Syria and the release of thousands of Alawite prisoners. Security forces have been deployed in the coastal city following the crackdown against protests. Similar protests were also held in several other cities, including Baniyas, Jableh and Homs. The protests came days after eight people were killed in a terrorist attack at a mosque in Homs. Since the ouster of former president Bashar al-Assad last year, Syria has been rocked by several episodes of sectarian bloodshed. Back in March, more than 1,000 Alawites were killed by regime-affiliated forces.
China-Taiwan tensions
The Chinese military says it has started drills code-named "Justice Mission 2025" around Chinese Taipei. Starting December 29, the Chinese military’s Eastern Theater Command is dispatching its Army, Navy, Air Force and Rocket Force troops. They are conducting drills in the Taiwan Strait and areas to the north, southwest, southeast and east of the Island. Meanwhile, Chinese Taipei has condemned the drills as threat to regional stability. The island’s fighter jets took off from Hsinchu Air Base in response to the exercises announced by China. China says it will conduct live-fire drills the following day across five zones in waters and airspace near the island. China views the island as its own territory, a position Taipei rejects.
