Turkey presidential election
The Turkish presidential election is very likely to head to a run-off as none of the candidates has so far managed to reach the 50% threshold to win outright. After over 99% of the vote counted, incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has fallen below 50%. His main rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu is trailing with nearly 45% of ballots. Official results will be announced after all ballots are counted. Turkish people went to the polls on Sunday to elect 600 members of parliament and the next head of the state. Some 64 million people were eligible to vote and a high turnout was reported.
Pro-Palestinian rallies
Yemenis have taken to the streets across the country on the 75th anniversary of the creation of the Israeli regime, known as the Day of Nakba or Catastrophe. Rallies were held in the capital, Sana’a, as well as other major cities such as Sa’ada and al-Hudayda to express solidarity with Palestinians. The demonstrators condemned the expulsion of Palestinians from their homes and the Israeli regime's ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. They called on the international community to take action to stop Israeli aggression and expansionist policies. Nakba Day was also marked with similar rallies elsewhere across the world.
Thailand opposition win
Thai opposition claims victory after an election result that left the Move Forward Party the biggest in parliament. A massive surge for MFP in Sunday's ballot left it on course to be the biggest party, followed by another opposition party namely the Pheu Thai movement. The opposition parties were contesting against former coup leader and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha. The United Thai Nation party, led by the ex-army chief, who seized power in a 2014 coup, stood a distant third. Now, the MFP leader says he is ready for taking the role of prime minister.
