Former US President Donald Trump has arrived in court as his supporters and reporters gathered outside the New York City courthouse in downtown Manhattan where he is set to appear to be arraigned on criminal charges.
In a historic event, Trump is expected to be arraigned on 34 felony counts at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse at 2:15 p.m. local time (GMT: 18:15) on Tuesday.
Just moments before he arrived, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform: “Heading to Lower Manhattan, the Courthouse. Seems so SURREAL – Wow, they are going to ARREST ME.”
Trump will reportedly be taken for fingerprinting and processing and then go before Judge Juan Merchan to enter a plea of not guilty.
Despite the tight security measures, a number of protesters and counter-protesters have assembled outside the court, but so far they've been outnumbered by media members.
Trump's Party-mates US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, (R-Ga.) and George Santos, (R-N.Y.), made appearances in support of Trump.
A grand jury in New York voted to indict Trump in connection with his alleged role in hush money paid amid his 2016 presidential campaign to former adult film actress Stormy Daniels to silence her claims of having had a love affair with Trump.
The businessman-turned-politician denies the criminal charges lodged against him, calling the indictment politically motivated.
However, his former lawyer has already confessed to the crime and proven the criminal case with verified evidence, including bank records.
Trump has admitted to making the payment.
Following the arraignment, the former president is expected to return to Florida where he is scheduled to speak at 8:15 p.m. local time (GMT: 00:15 Wednesday) from his Mar-a-Lago estate.
In the meantime, Trump’s Save America PAC sent emails to supporters asking them to “please make a contribution peacefully.”
Last week, Trump’s PAC said it had received more than $4 million within 24 hours of his indictment.
