Jordan talks

Jordan will be hosting a meeting between Palestinian Authority and Israeli officials later on Sunday amid heightened tensions in the occupied territories. Jordanian officials say representatives from regional parties and the US will also attend the meeting in the Red Sea port of Aqaba. The Palestinian Authority says its delegation will use the meeting to call for a peace deal and an end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank. However, Palestinian resistance groups, including Hamas have called on the Palestinian Authority to withdraw from the meeting. They say it is a US plot against Palestinian aspirations. Israel has intensified its crackdown against Palestinians over the past months. The violence has killed at least 62 people this year.

Russia-West tensions

The Russian president says the West is an indirect accomplice to the crimes committed by Ukraine in its war with Russia. Vladimir Putin says NATO is indirectly involved in the conflict by sending tens of billions of dollars in weapons to Ukraine. He has also underlined that Moscow has no choice but to take into account the nuclear capabilities of NATO as the US-led military alliance is seeking the defeat of the Russian Federation. Putin said he had no doubt that a multipolar world would happen. He made the comments in an interview with a Russian TV channel.

US winter storm

A rare winter storm has swept the US State of California, causing flooding, mass power outages, and the closure of main routes. The storm has brought snow to higher elevations while dumping rain and hail in the flatlands. More than 120,000 people, mostly in the Los Angeles area are without electricity. Interstate 5, the largest highway leading north out of the city, has been closed. The storm is one of the strongest to hit the state in years. The US National Weather Service says a massive low-pressure system driven from the Arctic was responsible for the unusual conditions.
