FM: Iran constantly concerned about women, children in war-hit countries
Addressing a Tehran-hosted international conference on women, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says the Islamic Republic is constantly concerned about the situation of women and children in war-ravaged countries across the world.
The top diplomat made the remarks on Friday, speaking during the first edition of the International Congress for Women of Influence in the Iranian capital.
"We are serious opponents of war" no matter where it takes place, Amir-Abdollahian said.
"Avoiding all dual politics and standards, the Islamic Republic is concerned about the situation of Ukrainian women and children, in the same way that it is concerned about the situation of women and children in Palestine, Yemen, Afghanistan, and other countries, which have been afflicted with war," he explained.
The Islamic Republic tries its utmost towards the realization of a ceasefire in Ukraine -- where Russia has been waging a war since last February -- and prompting the warring sides to focus on peace, he asserted.
Most recently, President Ebrahim Raeisi assured his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin of Iran's preparedness to play a positive intermediary role in ending the 11-month-long war between Russia and Ukraine.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir-Abdollahian noted how the conference had highlighted "the need for the creation of the best living conditions and brightest future for women all over the world," and featured an emphasis on the role of women in the efflorescence of families and societies worldwide.
Amir-Abdollahian also lambasted the United States-led drive that led to Iran's ouster from the United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women last year.
Depriving Iran of its seat at the commission, he said, does not serve to distract the Islamic Republic from its efforts to enhance women's status in the Iranian society and further empower women's presence across various political, social, cultural, scientific, and artistic arenas.
The conference attracted 300 foreign guests, including incumbent international female officials, spouses of former and current world officials, and dozens of women's rights activists.
