A majority of Democratic voters say US President Joe Biden, who was the oldest individual to be inaugurated when he was sworn in January 2021, should not run for the White House in 2024, according to a new poll.

The CNBC All-America Economic Survey, published on Saturday, found that 57 percent of Democratic voters oppose Biden’s reelection bid.

Overall 70 percent of all Americans surveyed, with 66 percent of independents and 86 percent of Republicans also said Biden should not seek a second term.

Biden, who has suffered a dip in his job approval ratings in recent months, has been telling advisers and staff he plans to run again in 2024. Biden would be 82 at the start of his second term if reelected.

The survey also found that a majority of voters do not want former Republican President Donald Trump to seek another term as president.

Sixty-one percent of Americans surveyed, including 37 percent of Republicans, 61 percent of independents and 88 percent of Democrats, don’t want Trump to run for a second term.

Trump has announced to seek another run for the White House.

Biden is telling everyone he plans to run for reelection in 2024, but most Democrats aren’t sure he will follow through on that plan. However, Biden's aides have also stressed the president intends to run again in 2024.

The poll also found Biden’s approval rating dropped from 46 percent in October to 41 percent this month, while his disapproval rating rose from 50 percent to 54 percent. His approval rating on the economy dropped from 40 percent to 38 percent.

Only 14 percent of people surveyed said they believe the economy is good or excellent, which is the lowest level in the survey since 2013.

Biden’s approval rating has remained low for more than a year with inflation near a 40-year high.

Biden has been under attack for his advanced age by Republicans. Former US Ambassador to the United Nations and Republican Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley has even suggested that aged politicians in the American government should undergo a "cognitive test."

According to another recent poll, Biden is the least popular US president in decades with 59 percent of Americans believing his performance has been poor and 45 percent “strongly disapproving" of the Democratic president's leadership in the past two years.

Biden and his team have been denying official reports indicating that the US economy is in a state of recession.
