Israeli atrocities

The Israeli regime releases footage of its forces raiding the offices of Palestinian human rights groups in the occupied West Bank. The military says it closed seven institutions and confiscated property during the overnight raids. Senior Palestinian Authority official Hussein al-Sheikh censured the raids as an attempt to silence the voice of truth and justice. Israel has labeled six Palestinian rights groups "terrorist organizations" without providing evidence for its allegations. The regime recently passed into law the terror designation of three of those rights groups. Last month, nine member states of the European Union, among them France and Germany, issued a joint statement saying they would continue to cooperate with those six groups. The statement cited lack of substantial information to justify the designation of those groups as the reason behind the decision.

Russia nuclear disaster warning

Russia warns of a man-made disaster at Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, accusing Ukraine of planning provocation at the site. Moscow issued the warning as the UN chief Antonio Guterres met with Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky in the city of Lviv. Zelensky urged Guterres to ensure the security of Europe’s biggest nuclear power plant. The UN secretary general had earlier proposed a de-militarized zone around the site, but Russia now rejects the idea as unacceptable. Moscow says implementing the proposal will make Zaporizhzhya even more vulnerable. The nuclear power plant has become a flash point in the Ukraine war. The two sides blame each other for intensified shelling around the site. The plant is currently held by Russian troops and operated by Ukrainian workers.

China-US tensions over Taiwan

China has warned the United States against signing any agreement with the Chinese Taipei. This is after Washington announced plans for trade talks with the island. The Chinese official warned his country will take firm measures against violating the Chinese sovereignty. US officials say negotiations with Taiwan would cover a host of areas, including agriculture, digital trade, regulatory practices and removing trade barriers. Taiwan says it is expecting extended economic collaboration with the US, but its largest trading partner by far remains China. Chinese officials have shown a flurry of stern reactions over the US-Taiwan relations. Beijing says Washington’s provocative actions threaten peace in Southeast Asia.
