Demanding Trump trial

People in Iran have paid tribute to the country’s top commander, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and senior Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. The two anti-terror icons were assassinated in an American drone strike outside Baghdad Airport on January 3, 2020. People from all walks of life participated in ceremonies across Iran to mark the occasion. They called for bringing the perpetrators to justice. People from other countries such as Iraq, Yemen and Syria have also held similar ceremonies in commemoration of General Soleimani and Muhandis. Addressing a gathering in the capital Tehran, President Ebrahim Raeisi said former US President Donald Trump who ordered the assassinations must be put on trial.

US COVID-19 crisis

COVID-19 cases are soaring in the United States as the highly transmissible Omicron variant drives a huge wave of infections and hospitalizations across the country. According to US media, Coronavirus cases have doubled nationally in the last seven days to 418,000 infections a day on average. In Florida, the situation is far worse with a spike of nearly 950 percent in cases in just two weeks. Officials say residents have to wait for hours in lines to take a test. Official data suggests only 62 percent of the US population is fully vaccinated, with numbers especially low in the south. The United States is world’s hardest hit country by the pandemic with more than 56 million infections and nearly 848-thousand fatalities.
