Iran-IAEA relations

Iran has dismissed US threats after Washington said all options are on the table if the upcoming talks with the parties to the 2015 nuclear deal fail. The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said that Iran’s focus in the Vienna talks is the removal of what he called unilateral and brutal sanctions. Saeed Khatibzadeh said Iran is serious in this endeavor and called on the other parties to attend the talks with the same level of commitment. He also expressed hope that the upcoming visit by the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency to Iran will be constructive. The spokesman said Iran has always called on the agency to pursue technical cooperation and prevent the abuse of its name by some countries for their own political agendas.

Police say the vehicle involved has been recovered and one person of interest is in custody as investigations continue.

Netherlands COVID-19 unrest

Protests against coronavirus restrictions continue across the Netherlands for the third consecutive night. Police say 130 people have so far been arrested. The protests saw police clash with angry people, who set off fireworks and vandalized properties. However, authorities say Sunday night’s unrest was less violent than the past two nights. The previous night, police resorted to water cannons to disperse protesters in The Hague. Several officers were injured there. Also on Friday, four people were killed by police live fire in Rotterdam. The demonstrations center around new COVID-19-related restrictions, including a potential mandatory vaccination for access to indoor venues.
