Hezbollah will respond to any Israeli aggression; Iran committed to backing Lebanon: MP

Ali Fayyad, a member of the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc -- Hezbollah's political wing in the Lebanese parliament

A Lebanese legislator from Hezbollah’s political wing has sharply criticized the Lebanese government’s inaction vis-à-vis recurrent Israeli acts of aggression, saying that the resistance movement will respond resolutely and forcefully to any assault by the Tel Aviv regime’s forces.

“The memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, which underlines the need for a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon, as well as Iran’s decisive military and diplomatic support for the Lebanese nation until Israeli occupation forces withdraw from our soil, clearly explains why we are speaking of an effective balance with the Zionist enemy that opens the horizon for forcing it to leave our territories,” Ali Fayyad, a member of the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc, stated on Friday.

The Lebanese lawmaker stated that every aggressive Israeli act gives Hezbollah an automatic right to respond, emphasizing that the continued presence of any Israeli military force on the Lebanese soil confirms and establishes the legitimacy of the Resistance in fighting and combating the occupiers.

He strongly criticized the Lebanese government’s passive stance in surrendering to American diktats and direct negotiations with representatives from the Israeli regime.

“What is regrettable is the role of certain Lebanese authorities, their positions, their negotiating performance, and their internal Lebanese calculations. Their stances have placed themselves outside the equation of power in confronting the Zionist enemy, protecting the Lebanese nation, and liberating the occupied lands,” Fayyad said.

He added, “Unfortunately, the Lebanese government’s priority is to monopolize weapons, not liberate the usurped territories. All previous positions, repeated mistakes, and insistence on weak, confusing, and submissive negotiation performance against the enemy reflect the passive approach of the government.”

The Hezbollah lawmaker emphasized that the developments resulting from the Iran-US agreement have put the Lebanese government before a litmus test.

“The Lebanese government must maintain the priority of the ceasefire, and be resolute in preventing the enemy’s freedom of movement and setting an unconditional timetable for Israel’s withdrawal.”

Fayyad stated that the Beirut government must take a firm stance and implement measures that will put an end to the Israeli plot for freedom of action in Lebanon and its recurrent acts of terror, which violate the rights of all Lebanese nationals and disregard their lives.

“What we are demanding from the government is the least that the Lebanese people expect from their government. They would like the authorities to provide them with something that at least makes them feel like they really have a government.”

Fayyad further noted that the position of Hezbollah is clear, unambiguous, non-negotiable, and without retreat.

“A ceasefire is meaningless while the enemy continues its targeting and assassinations. Our right to self-defense has been established and cannot be bargained or negotiated,” he added.
