Trump says Biden's border crisis turning US into ‘cesspool of humanity’

Former US president Donald Trump has slammed the administration of President Joe Biden over tense situation on the southern border with Mexico, saying that the United States is becoming a “​cesspool of humanity“​.

Trump called the situation in Texas where thousands of migrants are being held under the Del Rio International Bridge a “crisis crisis”, blasting the “mainstream US media” for “paying almost no attention” to the situation in Del Rio.

He predicted the border situation will become “the greatest crisis in the history of our country.”

“Tens of thousands of people are coming from Haiti, and many now from countries in Africa, even more so now than South America. Nothing is done and the corrupt mainstream media is giving almost no attention to what will be perhaps the greatest crisis in the history of our country​,” Trump noted in a statement.

Illegal border crossings have surged since Biden assumed office, and overwhelmed migrant detention centers, in particular for unaccompanied migrant children, and catch-and-release processing tactics have made the situation a major point of criticism with his opponents. 

Biden has come under fire over crisis in Del Rio, where a bridge has been used as a holding area for over 14,000 migrants. Many have come from Haiti following recent major events in the poor country, including and a powerful earthquake last month and the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in July.

“​The largest number of illegal aliens in the history of our country are pouring in by the millions. They are totally unchecked and unvetted, can do whatever they want, and go wherever they want,” Trump said.

US holding 10,000 migrants in squalid conditions under Texas bridge

More than 10,000 mostly Haitian migrants are being held in a squalid camp under a bridge in southern Texas.

Haitian immigrants are seeking to be detained at the US border so that they can apply for asylum as US authorities have allowed the migrants to avoid deportation and obtain either a temporary residence permit or a work permit.

Trump said, “Murderers, drug dealers, and criminals of all shapes and sizes” are part of this “massive migration” and, if released into the US, will continue the country’s rapid decline into a “cesspool of humanity.” 

Migrants have been approaching the southern US border since last year, triggered by the ongoing political instability and deep economic hardship in Central America as well as Biden’s changes to US immigration policies.

US to accelerate flights to forcibly expel migrants from south Texas

The Biden administration is implementing a strategy to ramp up deportation flights to forcibly expel migrants in South Texas.

In January, Biden vowed to unwind Trump's hardline immigration policies, ending "harsh and extreme immigration enforcement", and restoring the asylum system.

His administration has dropped a number of its initiatives to reverse Trump-era migration restrictions in order to stop the migrant influx, however, remains the subject of scrutiny by the political opponents for its handling of the surge.

There have been 1.85 million border apprehensions this year, breaking a record of 1.64 million in 2000, according to projections released this week.
