Britain has a new man in charge of the country’s health service. Former chancellor Sajid Javid replaces Matt Hancock to helm the most under-pressure department in government.

First point of order, attempting to manage the COVID crisis, but this is no ordinary cabinet reshuffle. Previous Health Minister Matt Hancock was forced to step down after embarrassing revelations about his private conduct were made public.

Despite presiding over the shambolic handling of Britain’s COVID response, it became clear that Hancock had fallen out of favor inside Downing Street.

For those hoping there would be a change in approach from the new health chief, they may well be disappointed.

Britain’s national health service was already creaking at the seams before the pandemic hit now for the million still awaiting operations and urgent care it won’t really matter much who is in charge, they just want to get better and get better soon.

With COVID dominating the health agenda, Sajid Javid will have his work cut out for him, and as the fate of his two predecessors has shown, landing the job is the easy part.
