India's farmers block train tracks to protest new laws
Groups of farmers sat on railway tracks across India on Thursday as part of a continuing protest against new laws on how farmers can sell their produce.
Railway officials stopped most trains as a precautionary measure at stations.
The protest started at around 12 p.m. local (0630GMT), continuing until 4 p.m.
The federal government has offered concessions to the farmers, but refuses to repeal laws passed last year that it says are crucial in bringing new investment to the sector, which accounts for nearly 15% of India's $2.9 trillion economy and about half its workforce.
Farmers fear the laws will leave them at the mercy of big corporate buyers, gradually ending the current practice of assured government purchases.
