Mexico's zoo boats first locally-born Antarctic penguin

An Antarctic penguin chick named Alex became the first of its kind to be born in Mexico as part of a five-year conservation project.

The Gentoo penguin weighs 1.6 kg (3.5 pounds) and was born in Mexico City's Inbursa Aquarium at the beginning of December.

While Alex may be a long way from Antarctica, the conditions in the aquarium are cool enough to ensure penguins are comfortable.
