Indian python rescued after swallowing prey
A python that was apparently unable to move after swallowing its prey was rescued by forest officials on Sunday, September 27, in India's northern Rampur district.
Forest officials reached Sihari village in the district after villagers informed them about the presence of the snake in the area on Saturday, September 26.
The python was rescued and initially released near a river but was later brought back by the villagers. Divisional forest officer Rajiv Jumar said that officials on Sunday then returned to the area and transported it to a nearby jungle where it was rereleased.
Python is a constricting snake which is widely found in India and is known to be one of the largest snakes in the world. They are normally not considered dangerous to humans but have enough muscle power to overcome and swallow large animals such as fawns or calves.
