Clashes in Paris as nine firefighters unions protest working conditions

Police officers clashed with protesters in Paris as French firefighters' unions protested over their working conditions, as seen in footage filmed on Friday.

The atmosphere was a little tense before the protest began, with firefighters setting off large fireworks from the center of the square and police intervening to remove some demonstrators from the gathering.

The protesters complained that they were understaffed, underpaid and had to take on extra duties to make up for shortfalls in other services.

In their press release, the unions addressed the pay issue by demanding an increase in the risk premium and a bonus for the 2024 Olympics, similar to that planned for police officers.

Nine firefighters' unions in Paris organized an 'unprecedented' strike and protest, their first coordinated action of this kind, according to local media.
