Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the United Arab Emirates has betrayed the entire Muslim world by normalizing ties with the Israeli regime, but that the betrayal will not last long.

The UAE betrayed the world of Islam, the Arab nations, the region’s countries, and the important cause of Palestine, Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with directors at the Education Ministry via video conference on Tuesday.

“Of course, this situation will not last long, and the stain of shame will remain on the face of those who forgot the occupation of this country (Palestine) and the displacement of the Palestinian nation and allowed the Zionists into the region.”

The Leader was referring to the agreement recently brokered by the US to establish full diplomatic relations between the UAE and Israel.

Ayatollah Khamenei further expressed dismay at Abu Dhabi’s collaboration with Israel and the wicked elements at the helm of the US administration in their brutal actions against the interests of the region and the entire Islamic world.

The Leader advised the UAE to wake up as soon as possible and compensate for what it has done.

All Palestinian factions have censured the peace deal as a stab in the back of the oppressed nation. The agreement has also drawn angry reactions from Muslim countries and other supporters of the Palestinian cause against Israeli occupation.

In turn, Iranian officials have lined up to denounce the UAE for betraying the cause of Palestine.

In mid-August, President Hassan Rouhani said the UAE made a “huge mistake” by making peace with Israel, warning Abu Dhabi about the consequences of allowing the Tel Aviv regime to secure a foothold in the region.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also said the “treacherous” deal would not affect the Palestinian resistance against the Tel Aviv regime.
