Bolton’s firing should be followed by ouster of Pompeo: Analyst

Mark Dankof

US President Donald Trump’s firing of hawkish National Security Advisor John Bolton was a positive move, but it should be followed by the ouster of other neoconservative agents in his administration, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, a former US Senate candidate says.

“My immediate reaction is positive, and I said good riddance to John Bolton…on Twitter,” said Mark Dankof, who is also a broadcaster and pastor in San Antonio, Texas.

“I informed Mr. Bolton that he can take his wars for Israel with him and that I hope Pompeo would be the next to go,” Dankof told Press TV.

However, the guy replacing Mr. Bolton is perhaps a Zionist neoconservative zealot himself; my optimism is very guarded,” he added.

“Bolton needs to go, Pompeo needs to go, [Rudy] Giuliani needs to go, the rest of these neocon Zionist agents … need to go.”

On Tuesday, Trump fired Bolton, saying he had “disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions.”

Bolton disputed Trump's version of events, however, saying he resigned.

Bolton, a leading foreign policy hawk, took over the role of national security adviser in April 2018.

Trump had sometimes joked about Bolton's image as a warmonger, reportedly saying in one Oval Office meeting that "John has never seen a war he doesn't like."

Bolton has adopted an aggressive approach towards Iran since his appointment to the top post by Trump. Independent observers have accused him of conniving with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in order to provoke a military conflict between Iran and the United States.

Bolton has also opposed Trump's peace initiative towards North Korea and urged the president to pursue gunboat diplomacy against the East Asian country.
