Coppa Italia: Lazio sink Atlanta 2-0 to win crown

Lazio players celebrate after winning the Coppa Italia

Lazio have won Italy's domestic cup competition known as Coppa Italia for a 7th time after defeating Atalanta 2-nil in the final in Rome

The game looked to be heading to a goalless draw in regulation time but Lazio broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute when their Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who'd been brought on just minutes earlier, climbed highest to head in, at the far post.

Atalanta then poured men forward in search of an equalizer, leaving them light at the back. They were made to pay the price in the 90th minute when Lazio launched a counterattack with their Argentinian midfielder Joaquin Correa racing into the area and rounding the keeper to put the game to bed.

Lazio thus ended the domination of Juventus in the competition for over the past 4 years, and sealed a place in next season's Europa League.
