US President Donald Trump and the Republican Party only favor economy and ignore the negative effects of their policies on deteriorating climate change phenomenon, says a commentator.

The latest National Climate Assessment, compiled by over 300 scientists, shows extreme weather has cost the United States nearly $400 billion since 2015.

Jody Grage, vice chair of the Green Party of Washington state, told Press TV on Saturday that “climate change is going to be devastating for a lot of industries and he (Trump) refuses to even look at that.”

The American authorities just talk about the economy and ignore misery, displacements and hunger that are going to be the result of climate change, Grage said, adding that “it is so interesting how selective the Republicans and Donald Trump can be.”

“The Republicans and Donald Trump do not see the overall picture. They are interested only in the little bit of it that affects them and they refuse to see that things change,” she argued.

The deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history, started more than two weeks ago, has left at least 84 people dead. As many as 560 are still unaccounted for.
