The Iran women's national handball team has been drawn in Group A of the 2018 Asian Women's Handball Championship, which is scheduled to be staged in Japan later this year.

During the official draw ceremony earlier this week, the Iranian outfit joined squads from Australia, the host nation, Kazakhstan and New Zealand in the preliminary round of the upcoming tournament.

China, Hong Kong, India, Singapore and South Korea form Group B in the event.

The 2018 Asian Women's Handball Championship will open in the southwestern Japanese city of Kumamoto on November 30, and will run through December 9.

The tournament will be held under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation, and will serve as a qualifying tournament for the 2019 World Women's Handball Championship.

The World Championship will be held in Japan from November 30 to December 15, 2019.
