Iranian freestyle wrestlers vice champion in Yasar Dogu Tournament

Iranian freestyle wrestlers have clinched six medals at the 46th edition of Yasar Dogu Freestyle and Women’s Wrestling Tournament in Turkey, and finished as the overall vice champion of the event.

On Sunday evening, Mohammad Bagher Yakhkeshi defeated Sandeep Tomar from India 8-2 and won the gold medal in the 61-kilogram weight class at the Bagcilar Olimpic Sports Hall in the Turkish port city of Istanbul.

Mohammad Javad Ebrahimi Zivlaei overcame his compatriot Alireza Karimi Machiani in the final bout of the 92-kilogram weight division, and snatched the second gold medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Moreover, Yadollah Mohebi could not triumph over his Ukrainian opponent Oleksandr Iosypovych Khotsianivskyi in the final contest of the 125-kilogram weight class, and lost to him 6-9 to scoop the silver medal.

Earlier in the competitions, Mehran Nasiri-Afrachali defeated Ali Rahimzada from Azerbaijan in the final bout of the 65-kilogram weight category, and was awarded a gold medal.

Mojtaba Goleij was overwhelmed by his Azerbaijani opponent Aslanbek Alborov 0-10 in the 97-kilogram final contest, and got the silver.

The American men’s freestyle wrestling team collected 150 points and was named the top-ranked squad.

The Iranians claimed the second place with 146 points, and third-place Turks got 125 points at the international tournament.

The 46th edition of Yasar Dogu Freestyle and Women’s Wrestling Tournament kicked off on July 27, and concluded on July 29, 2018.
