ISTAF chief urges Iran to design apparel for Muslim women’s sepaktakraw teams

Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Masoud Soltanifar (2nd R) meets Secretary General of the International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF), Dato Abdul Halim Bin Kader (2nd L) in Tehran, Iran, on April 11, 2018.

Secretary General of the International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF), Dato Abdul Halim Bin Kader, has called on Iran to design apparel for female athletes from Muslim nations, who wish to adhere to Islamic dress code while taking part in international tournaments.

During a meeting with Iranian Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Masoud Soltanifar in Tehran, Bin Kader praised the noble participation of national Iranian women’s sepaktakraw teams in international events, stressing that Iranian sides could serve as an example for other Muslim countries.

He called on Iranians to design three different models of clothes for female sepaktakraw teams to be officially distributed among Muslim federations through ISTAF.

Soltanifar, for his part, hailed ISTAF’s support for the promotion of sepaktakraw in Iran.

“Our efforts are aimed at further development of this sport, and you will surely hear good news in future regarding the promotion of sepaktakraw in Iran,” the Iranian minister said.

Sepak takraw, or kick volleyball, is a sport native to Southeast Asia. It differs from the similar sport of volleyball in its use of a rattan ball and only allowing players to use their feet, knee, chest and head to touch the ball. It is a popular sport in Southeast Asia.
