Iran secured the team title at the U17 Asian Wrestling Championships on Sunday, following a dominant two-day performance in the freestyle discipline.

The freestyle tournament, held from May 29 to May 30 in Vietnam's Danang, saw the Iranian squad top the team standings with 178 points. Japan finished as runners-up with 165 points, while India took third place with 153 points.

Iran's campaign was propelled by four gold medals, alongside two silver and two bronze finishes.

Mahdi Damircheli claimed gold in the 45kg division, joined at the top of the podium by Benyamin Ashofteh (51kg), Arman Elahi (55kg), and Amirali Farasti (80kg).

Silver medals were captured by Amirali Ragheb in the 48kg category and Amirhossein Esmaeli in the 110kg heavyweight division.

Rounding out the medal tally, Mohammad Taha Ganjeh (60kg) and Amirabbas Lotfinejad (65kg) each secured bronze medals to seal the team victory for Iran.

The triumph capped a highly successful week for the nation's youth wrestling program.

Just days prior, Iran’s Greco-Roman squad captured the continental team championship at the same venue, establishing complete Iranian dominance across both styles at this year's tournament.
