The commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) praised young Iranian athletes for recent sporting victories, which he described as a source of national pride during the US-Israeli-imposed war.
In a statement released on Sunday, the IRGC chief hailed Iran’s title-winning performance at the 2026 Asian Cadet Wrestling Championships in Vietnam, the national women’s volleyball team’s victory at the Central Asian Championship, and athlete Haniyeh Shahpari’s silver medal at the 22nd Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Hong Kong.
The commander said the young freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers demonstrated "exemplary determination and excellence" by securing championship honors at a time when the United States and the Israeli regime have waged a full-scale war against Iran.
He also highlighted the women’s volleyball team’s Central Asian title and Shahpari’s silver-medal finish in Hong Kong as further evidence of the capabilities of Iranian female athletes on the international stage.
The IRGC chief said the athletes’ "brilliant" accomplishments had brought joy and optimism to Iranian society, serving as a "crushing response" to enemy efforts to create public despair.
"The heroic nation of Iran will never forget the proud scenes of the brave Iranian athletes," the statement added.
The commander extended his sincere congratulations to the young athletes, their coaches, and sports officials involved in the achievements.
