Trump's impeachment possible, but won’t change US support of Israel: Analyst

President Trump

US President Donald Trump’s impeachment, although possible, would bring no change to the current American foreign policy which favors Israel and Saudi Arabia, says an American political analyst in San Antonio.

Mark Dankof, a former US Senate candidate, made the remarks in reaction to speculation that Democrats were considering a case of obstruction of justice against the US president over his alleged “collusion” with Russia.

Legal experts and other Democrats are also suggesting that Trump could face charges of obstruction of justice because of the way he has handled a high-profile inquiry in this regard.

Dankof told Press TV on Monday that Democrats had a good chance for an impeachment after next year’s mid-term congressional elections.

However, the alternative option is not expected to change America’s foreign policy direction in any major way.

“Trump, in contrast to his America-first rhetoric during the election, is pursuing an Israel-first Saudi Arabia-second polict that is quite like to engage the United States in a war with Iran,” he argued.

The Trump administration’s current approach also risks a “super power competition” with Russia and China, he added.

Trump’s possible impeachment after the mid-term elections would transfer the power to Vice President Mike Pence.

“There is a virtual guarantee that Pence will do anything that the Israeli lobby wants if he in fact ascends into the big chair at the oval office,” the analyst continued.

“The alternative of course is… a democratic president who will of course be under the same control of the Israeli lobby as his Republican predecessors,” Dankof added.

The analyst expressed little hope that an alternative to Trump would bring about the change that his critics are waiting for.

“The bottom-line is this: I don’t see that we are going to see any substantive changes to the direction that the United States is going in terms of military interventionism,” supporting wars in the Middle East and direct confrontation with Iran and Russia, the analyst concluded.
