Iran can diversify regional ties via Qatar relations: Pundit

The photo shows Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif (R) and Qatar’s Economy Minister Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani in a meeting in Tehran, November 26, 2017.

The expansion of relations between Iran and Qatar will undermine Saudi Arabia’s efforts to pit the Persian Gulf Arab states against the Islamic Republic, and it will provide an opportunity for Tehran to diversify its relationships in the region, says an academic.

Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari has held a meeting with the visiting Qatari Economy Minister Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani.

“I believe that these talks are very important both for Iran and for Qatar in order to strengthen the economic ties between the two countries and it [provides] the chance for Qatar to substitute its imports from the [P]GCC countries by imports from Iran,” Jamal Wakim, professor of international relations at the Lebanese International University told Press TV in an interview on Sunday.
