The Spanish Supreme Court sentenced the Speaker of the Catalan Parliament Carme Forcadell to prison after a €150,000 (US $174,700) bail was not submitted by her lawyer in Madrid, Thursday (9 Nov. 2017).

4 other Catalan MPs Lluis Corominas, Lluis Guino, Anna Simo and Ramona Barrufet were released but must pay a bail of €25,000 (US $29,100), whilst a fifth, Joan Josep Nuet, was released without precautionary measures.

Forcadell will be sent to a women's prison, Alcala Meco, on the outskirts of Madrid.

The 6 Catalan politicians were facing charges of rebellion and sedition with regard to the October 1st Catalan independence referendum, which the central government declared 'illegal'.
