Iran defense power

A senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has reiterated Iran's unwavering position on its defense capabilities, stressing that they are not open to any negotiation. Ali Shamkhani made the remark in an interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed news outlet. He emphasized that Iran's missile capabilities “are part of the country’s defensive deterrence system,” which are considered as a red line, and cannot be a subject for any negotiation. He noted that negotiations with the United States have their own course. Shamkhani asserted that nuclear talks with Washington can lead to acceptable outcomes if they are pursued through a realistic approach and based on mutual respect. He noted that Israel is making a persistent attempt to derail the conflict resolution process from dialog, and return it to a cycle of conflict and confrontation. Shamkhani emphasized that whenever a window of opportunity for a political solution opens, Israel seeks to escalate tensions and create further turmoil.

Gaza death toll

A Swiss-based human rights organization has warned that the death toll from Israel's genocidal war in Gaza may surpass 200 thousand; far higher than the official figures currently reported. The Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law said estimates suggest Gaza’s population of over two million has fallen by more than ten percent since October 2023. The center warned that official casualty numbers likely don’t capture the full extent of the human losses, as many victims remain buried under rubble and have yet to be accounted for. It added that the sharp decline in Gaza’s population is a stark indicator of the severity of the humanitarian catastrophe. The group also said rebuilding the devastated territory will require billions of dollars due to the widespread destruction of infrastructure, homes, and essential facilities. The Gaza Health ministry has confirmed the death of over 72 thousand Palestinians so far.

DOJ hearing on Epstein files

US Democratic lawmakers have slammed Attorney General Pam Bondi over the handling of Epstein-related documents, accusing her of siding with the perpetrators. During a hearing on Capitol Hill, Bondi faced questions about lawsuits brought by the DOJ against Trump’s political rivals, with one lawmaker asking whether the administration was compiling an "enemies list." Another congressman questioned the volume of records released, noting that they are half of the expected six million documents, falling short of the full disclosure required by the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Passed in November, that law mandates the release of all unclassified records regarding Jeffrey Epstein and his associates, while explicitly prohibiting redactions intended to protect the reputations of powerful public figures.
