A penalty kick has given Persepolis all three points as they won the 85th Tehran derby against Esteghlal in the Persian Gulf Pro League at Azadi Stadium with a 1-0 result.

Esteghlal started on the offensive on Thursday creating several chances in the opening 20 minutes.

However, it was the Reds who were awarded a penalty kick after Esteghlal’s Rouzbeh Cheshmi was booked for stopping Ali Alipour in the penalty area with a sliding tackle from behind. Alipour himself converted with ease to put Persepolis in the lead. The score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
