Recent terrorist war on Iran similar to Israel’s pager attack on Lebanon: Qalibaf

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf says the recent “Daesh-style terrorist war” against the country had similar objectives to Israel’s terrorist pager attack on Lebanon in September 2024.

On September 17, 2024, thousands of wireless communication devices belonging to members of the resistance movement Hezbollah exploded in unison in different locations across Lebanon and Syria, killing at least 12 people and injuring around 3,000 others, mostly ordinary citizens.

The Israeli regime officially claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The indiscriminate pager bombings, first reported in the southern suburbs of Beirut, were followed by the detonation of walkie-talkies the next day, which also resulted in hundreds of casualties.

Speaking at a Parliament session on Monday, Qalibaf said the predetermined plan consisted of “naked and organized violence, terrorist and armed attacks, extremely violent civil commotion, and the brutal killing of several thousand civilians, members of Basij (voluntary forces) and police and security forces.”

The plan aimed to cause fear among the Iranian people, make them lose the capacity to analyze issues and stop supporting the country, thereby paving the way for the United States and its mercenaries to carry out an attack against Iran and disintegrate it, he added.

He noted that there are few countries in the world that are able to swiftly restore security and protect their peoples after being suddenly confronted with such “organized and brutal terrorism”, which was openly and officially supported by the US president.

The top parliamentarian emphasized that the recent plot was a continuation of the 12-day war waged by the US and the Israeli regime against Iran in mid-June.

As stated by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the sedition was ignited through the interference of the US president, who “exhausted all of his nonexistent credibility in perpetuating unrest, insecurity, and bloodshed in Iran,” he added.

Late last month, Iran witnessed street protests triggered by a sharp fall in the rial, the Iranian currency, and economic hardship in the capital, Tehran, and other cities.

The peaceful protests across Iran turned violent after US President Donald Trump and other American officials alleged that the United States would resort to fresh military aggression against Iran in the event of what they called Tehran’s “suppression” of the foreign-backed terrorist riots.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly stressed that it would exert due effort to address economic protests, but stands firm in the face of attempts at derailing protests towards disorder.

Iran most insecure place for terrorists, traitors: Parl. speaker

Qalibaf further said the enemy's defeat in the recent American-Israeli sedition once again showed that Iran, under the courageous and wise leadership of Ayatollah Khamenei and with its insightful people, is “the most insecure place in the world for terrorists and traitors.”

“This is the very issue that has left the US president desperate and provoked his contradictory, anger-driven reactions,” he added.

He noted that all freedom-seeking nations in the world regard Ayatollah Khamenei as a powerful voice and the leader of the oppressed people's resistance against corrupt, arrogant powers such as the US president and the Israeli officials.

The Parliament speaker pledged his full support for Iran, the Iranian nation and Ayatollah Khamenei.

In October 2025, Trump said that Israel's terrorist pager attacks against Lebanon took place with his greenlight.

In an interview with Time in the Oval Office, Trump shed light on his involvement in the act of aggression against Lebanon, saying he supported the pager attacks carried out by the Israeli regime.

“All of those attacks were done under my auspices, you know, with Israel doing the attacks—with the pagers and all that stuff,” Donald Trump said, adding, “They let me know everything.”
“And sometimes I’d say no—and they’d be respectful of that.”
