Shot putter wins Iran's 1st medal at Rio Paralympics

Iran’s Paralympian athlete Saman Pakbaz has collected a silver medal at the Rio Paralympics, winning the first medal of the games for the Islamic Republic delegation.

On Thursday, the Iranian sportsman competed in the men's shot-put F12 category and came 2nd with a throw of 15.98 meters.

Shot putter Gonzalez Lopez from Spain exhibited some inspiring display at the sporting event, and threw the shot 16.44 meters to snatch gold, while the bronze went to Ukraine’s Roman Danyliuk with a throw of 15.94 meters.

Another Iranian athlete Younes Seifipour finished fifth in the Men's shot put F32.

Iran has participated in the 2016 Summer Paralympics with 111 athletes in 12 sports categories.

Iran finished 11th in the previous edition, winning 10 gold medals, seven silvers and seven bronze medals.
