Americans angry at Trump, US government: Analyst

“People all along the United States are angry about the fact that Trump is generating Islamophobia and hatred of Muslims and hatred of immigrants,” Becker said.

Recent protests in the US show that Americans are outraged both by Donald Trump’s anti-Muslim remarks and the US government oppression of Muslims, says an American analyst.

Brian Becker of the ANSWER Coalition made the comments Monday in an interview with Press TV when asked about demonstrations held by hundreds of peace activists in New York City.

The demonstrators took to the streets Sunday to condemn US military involvement in the Middle East and Europe and criticize anti-Muslim statements by US presidential candidates, in particular leading Republican hopeful Trump.

The protesters gathered near the United Nations Headquarters and chanted anti-war slogans. They also called for an end to the war in Syria and NATO expansion in Europe.

“People all along the United States are angry about the fact that Trump is generating Islamophobia and hatred of Muslims and hatred of immigrants,” Becker said.

Throughout his controversial campaign, Trump has called for banning all Muslims from entering the US, while proposing a national database to facilitate tracking them.

The Manhattan businessman raised more eyebrows last week when he leveled another accusation against Muslims, saying Islam hates the West.

On racial issues, Trump has stirred controversy by constantly pledging to deport millions of immigrants from the US and building a wall to keep them from coming back.

Becker accused Trump of “demonizing” Latin Americans with the result that now “there is an opposition growing in the United States at the grassroots level against Donald Trump’s racism.”

However, he said Washington is “pursuing an imperial foreign policy” that included the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the bombing of Libya in 2011.

“So when people are protesting in the United States, they are saying we can’t have social justice at home without also fighting for peace on the international arena, because the United States government which oppresses so many of its own people, citizens and non-citizens within the US is also oppressing the people in the Middle East,” he concluded.
