Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • Iranian military forces have conducted missile drills nationwide. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps says the maneuvers are aimed at demonstrating the country’s deterrent power against threats to its territorial integrity. During the drills, ballistic missiles were fired from silos across the country.
  • The leader of Israel’s Labor Party Isaac Herzog calls for dividing the occupied city of East Jerusalem al-Quds with more high walls and military checkpoints. This is anticipated to affect 200-thousand Palestinians in the city. Herzog’s plan also aims to reduce the Muslim population of Jerusalem al-Quds.
  • A Palestinian woman has been shot dead by Israeli soldiers following an alleged stabbing attack in Jerusalem al-Quds. They accused her of trying to stab Israelis with a knife. Her death brings to 193 the number of Palestinians killed in a wave of violence that escalated in October.
  • More than 20 people have been killed in operations carried out by Pakistani forces near the border with Afghanistan. According to the army, they were all militants. The airstrikes and ground operations were conducted in the North Waziristan tribal district. The offensive began Monday night and continued into Tuesday.
  • The United States is set to release, for the first time, the death toll from its controversial drone strikes across the world. President Barack Obama's top homeland security advisor, Lisa Monaco, says the report will disclose casualty figures for both militants and civilians.
  • Beijing says it won't allow other countries to violate its sovereign rights in the South China Sea. Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated that the islands in the sea are an integral part of China's territory. Wang’s comments were chiefly made in reference to the US activities in the sea.
  • Two Austrian right-wing lawmakers distribute free pepper spray among women, claiming they need it to protect themselves against refugees. The two MPs gave out around two-hundred pepper spray cans in front of the parliament building in Vienna. They're opposed to the government's refugee policy.
  • Opponents and supporters of refugees have rallied in the German city of Leipzig. Police managed to keep the two rival camps separate. The anti-refugee Pegida movement has been staging rallies in the nearby city of Dresden on a weekly basis.
