Iran wheelchair tennis players finish runner-up in Asia games
Iran men's national wheelchair tennis team has ended its campaign at the Asian qualification tournament for 2016 BNP Paribas World Team Cup, and finished as the vice-champion in the regional sporting event.
On Tuesday, Iran’s Hossein Mamipour let slip a match point and two-set advantage against a representative from China in the first individual match in the Sri Lankan capital city of Colombo, and lost both sets 3-6.
Mehdi Tayebi also failed to be the winner in the second individual encounter against a Chinese opponents, and dropped 6-love in each set.
Earlier in the day, the Iranian outfit was agile to smoke forehands and backhands down the line in double events, and take the two sets to record a 2-love victory.
With the defeats against Chinese rivals in the final individuals, the Iranian sportsmen could not clinch the single direct quota for the 2016 BNP Paribas World Team Cup, which is scheduled to be held at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo, Japan, between May 23 and May 28.

The Asian qualification tournament for 2016 BNP Paribas World Team Cup started in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 27, and finished on March 1.
The BNP Paribas World Team Cup is the International Tennis Federation (ITF) flagship wheelchair tennis event, often referred to as the Davis and Fed Cups of wheelchair tennis.
The initial event took place in California, the United States, in 1985, involving six men’s teams. The women’s competition began the following year, with quad and junior events introduced in 1998 and 2000 respectively.
Over 100 teams from around 50 countries will take part in the 2016 competition. In Tokyo, teams will contest the men’s World Group (12 countries), men’s World Group II (12 countries), women’s World Group (12 countries), quad event (8 teams) and junior event (8 teams).
