American real estate mogul Donald Trump has threatened a mega-donor Republican family, which backs a super-PAC against him.
The reality TV star who is running for the 2016 presidential election in the United States took on the Ricketts family, a major supporter of the anti-Trump "Our Principles PAC," in a tweet on Monday.
Marlene Ricketts, the matriarch of the family, has contributed three million dollars to the super-PAC, run by former Mitt Romney adviser Katie Packer, reports said recently.
"I hear the Rickets [sic] family, who own the Chicago Cubs, are secretly spending $'s against me," the Republican front-runner said. "They better be careful, they have a lot to hide!"
A source with Our Principles PAC told the Hill that the “social media scare tactic” Trump adopts to respond to criticism raises concerns on how he would treat his enemies as the country’s commander-in-chief.
"It’s this kind of brazen social media scare tactic that makes one wonder what Trump would do with the power of the White House, the IRS or FBI," the source said on condition of anonymity, describing his tweet as "an outright threat and bullying aimed at a family who disagrees with Trump’s plan for America and has contributed to Our Principles PAC."
According to the Federal Election Commission, the super-PAC took all but $8,000 of its money from Marlene Ricketts, whose family owns the Chicago Cubs baseball team.
The Ricketts have also paid Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Florida Senator Marco Rubio $10,000 each.
