Chabahar targeted by US; Indian project at risk
US strikes have targeted facilities around Iran's Chabahar port, extending the conflict to a gateway that India has spent years developing as an alternative trade route to Afghanistan and Central Asia.
New Delhi says the Shahid Beheshti terminal remains unaffected.

For India, the concern extends well beyond the port itself.
Chabahar anchors New Delhi's push to expand trade routes into Afghanistan and Central Asia, while reducing its reliance on traditional transit corridors.
As the conflict edges closer, analysts say protecting the strategic investment will require careful diplomacy as much as security.
It remains a key nodal connectivity point for going north for the INSTC, the International North-South Transport Corridor, or for connectivity to Central Asia, to Afghanistan, and so on and so forth.
So I think it remains very crucial in terms of India's interests.
At some level, I think the Indian government would have, or is maybe planning to, communicate to the US side in terms of the vitality of the interests that are tied to these structures.

Although operations at the terminal continue, analysts say continued military activity around the port could increase risk to shipping, infrastructure, and, the long-term viability of India's strategic investment.
It is really distressing to see that the infrastructure is being targeted as part of the vengeance, or I think a blinded pursuit of it. It becomes extremely difficult in that kind of a sense.
So India is, of course, very concerned about the terminals being hit or being degraded, and is also hoping that there will be some resolution and some talks will start so that this kind of mad rush, mad syndrome stops.

Iran has condemned the strikes, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei saying Washington's moral standing collapses with every such attack.
For now, India's terminal at Chabahar remains operational.
However, as US strikes edge closer to one of New Delhi's key strategic investments overseas, concerns are growing over the continuity of operations and future of a key regional trade corridor.
